My first social run

With no Ken for the third Monday because he was still away and been tired from work I had a rest and did nothing. I got out on Tuesday night after work for a 3.7 miles run around Target Wood and back down Scholla Lane and home which was a nice evening and not too warm. I finally got to the club on Wednesday night for the first time in 2 weeks and I was happy to do something rather than rest all the time, we did a warm up as usual and then we did 5x4 min with 2 min rest in between each set, we started at the start for each 5 min and didn’t help when you are tired after work and the club coach telling you to put more effort in and try and get back to the marker or the start every time my legs knew they had ran after that session. No more running for the rest of the week until Sunday I did get out on my bike for a few miles after work on Friday

Sunday 10 miles training running

The message was put up on Facebook and comment where Fran made me or should I say she bullied me into going on her social run around Kilburn and Sutton Bank, I then put a comment on my Facbook saying if I get my arse up out of bed and get the train that will be a first but I will be coming. So I did manage to get the train as it was 3 min late so I was happy but nervous about how this 10 miles training run was going to go so I got picked up by Fran at the lay-by  at 9.30am so we were there first Bryan, Claire, Faith, Lorraine, Alan and Geoff  also turned up to this 10 miles training run we started just near the glider clubs car park along the road which was flattish that was the only bit the rest was either up or downhill over grass, undulates, getting stung by nettles but overall I did enjoy the training run and will go again if Fran organises another one this year I may even do some long runs with her as we are both training for a marathon. There is only one point I would like to make is that I am used to going out by myself and not in a group so this was all new to me and I did feel like I was holding the rest of the group up I did flag in the last mile and half as this is my first long since the London marathon so I was dead once I had finished.

Richmond Evening League

Again with no club on Monday night because Ken was away again so I went out for a run around Target Wood and down Scholla and back which was a nice run for a change. With no club on Wednesday night due to Rob cancelling the session because of the evening league on Thursday night. I got a lift with Swaledale runners to Richmond’s evening league we got there with 20 min to spare to have a chat and get to the start. Where it started and finished half way up this big hill we set off running anti clockwise so we ran down the big hill rather than running up this killer hill. So we started and hit the first hill where I walked up because it went on for a long time I kept a few harriers from passing me made sure Sarah didn’t try and run with me or pass me as I was wanted to really race tonight as there was too many hills I did walk up a few of the hill and the descent was evil and I was happy when I finished and my legs were stiff for a few day so no more running again for the rest of the week.

The week I had a rest

With Ken away I had couldn’t get to the club on the Monday night so I had a rest with the time trial on Wednesday I couldn’t get to the running club again because Noel chose not to go to the club so I missed another session and what with work and been tired I haven’t felt like doing much on a night and with my left leg and hips still hurting from the marathon I had a rest all week slowly get my mojo back

Tyre training

I went to the running club on Monday night, as usual we did a warm up with some running and some jumping jacks which I can’t do, we also did some high knee and back flips and more jumping jacks, then we walked back. We then got into abilities groups and did a relay of some running 200m having a 30sec rest and ran back and having 1.30 min rest we did this 6 times. I was with Brian but he went too fast so I ran with John and his son which was the right pace not too fast because my left legs, hips and back was hurting me from running the marathon over a month ago. Sonja got the tyre back out and we had a go at pulling them about 200 metres having rest in between, we then finished with some stretching and I couldn’t walk or bend my back after tonight’s hard training session so I was thinking “do I missed the evening league race at Harrogate or do I go and see how I get on.” So on Tuesday morning I got up took some tablets and the pain in the back eased so I decided to go to the race. After the race on Tuesday night I didn’t feel like do anything or even going training on Wednesday night I did try and think of a excuse but none came to mind so off I went training we did 6x3min with 1 half minute rest I struggled tonight for a change was doing good before the marathon and now I am at the back and going slow again we finished with some stretching off. I haven’t done much this week other than a bike ride today around Scholla, Bullamoor and back home yes that’s right I went up the nice big hill for a change and free wheeled down Bullamoor Road which was good I could have a rest. I spoke to my coach who helped me my last marathon training plan and I asked him to do one for the York marathon for me it starts in June and I am only starting by running 4 days a week for first month to build my training running back up I am going to do a few more race and maybe do some of training run on the nice flat hill in Northallerton so I will be blogging and moan about that soon don’t what the training plan is yet I think it top secret at the minutes

Harrogate race on Tuesday night

I got a lift with the Swaledale runners as I live in Northallerton and the bus doesn’t cost anything, as couldn’t remember doing this race and I missed 2 years, the last time I did the race was in 2007 and didn’t like it with the amount of hills at the start they should ban them. The race started and not 5 seconds into the race I nearly got tripped up luckily I stayed upright I got a few more yards and got tripped up by a Wetherby runner I went over and bang my knee only thing was I didn’t know how bad it was until I finished anyway that slowed me down for about 1 and a half miles until the pain eased which by this time Sarah Goacher had caught up with me and ran with me all the way around giving me a run for my money over taking on some the downhill and on one or two of the uphills but I managed to push myself to stay with her all the way around and I ran down the last hill as fast as I could just so Sarah didn’t beat me. After finishing the race the marshal at the end insisted that I get my knee seen to by the Red Cross as it looked worse than it was, so the Red Cross attempted to clean the cut up took my details and bandaged me knee up which I thought was O.T.T. and then asked if I wanted the paperwork and I said no so they sent me on my way. (photo to follow) I think I am starting to get my MOJO back slowly may do a run on Sunday as I have done 3 training sessions this week, most I have done since the marathon. My time was a minute slower than back in 2007. My time was 63.57

No Mojo for the last 3 weeks

Since doing the London Marathon I haven’t done much in the way of running. I have done a few club training nights, I think two on Monday and one on Wednesday night. The first Monday night training was a week after I did the marathon so I just did a few laps of the football pitch with Chris who also did the marathon. I came on the Wednesday night where we did a warm up as usual then onto 4x4 min interval sessions, I was still stiff and stopped once, I got back to where I started which was the worst thing to do when Gavin is around he shouted at me to put more effort in and to run over the pain it must have worked because I seemed to put more  effort in and got a lot faster towards the end. I have only done one race since doing the marathon which was the evening league at Otley, it was a 2 lap course which I didn’t do too bad on the first lap then I struggled on the second lap with my left leg stiffened up completely and by the finish it had felt I had run another marathon so I passed on the Ripon 10 miles on Sunday 19th April was going to do it and then changed my mind. The only other running I did was last Monday’s training which was harder than usual, did the  warm up then we did some relay running for 20 min and thanks to Mark another club runner came up with some daft exercise at the end that we had to do 2 sets of each exercise for 30 sec we finished with some cool down and stretches. Then I have had  a lazy week and done no more running.

The big fat rest

I started off the week by been goosed from the marathon I couldn’t walk or bend down for 3 days I ended up working on Monday afternoon. I went to the club on Wednesday night where I just helped with the time trial as I couldn’t do much and my legs still felt heavy from the marathon I was on my bike all week just to trying to loosen the legs and it did work and the fact that I feel better for not running I just feel tired now. I have done a silly thing and put in for the marathon next year.
